Since 1849 when Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV) were discovered in England, the US medical community for almost 170 years has been trying to mitigate the occurrence of nausea and vomiting symptoms with drug therapy but with limited success. During the past 20 years, the community despite its use of costly antiemetic drug combinations has been unable to firmly reduce PONV beyond 70% of high-risk surgery patients impacted by PONV. Fortunately, Chinese acupressure to treat various forms of nausea and vomiting has always held a good deal of promise for this type of use.

Nowadays, both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) have approved Pressure Right®, a medical device used for PONV. This brings the gospel to around to at least 10 million Chinese patients with PONV annually in addition to other nausea impacted medical situations including the use of chemotherapy for cancer patients.

Pressure Right® is a wrist strip designed to prevent nausea and vomiting by pressing Neiguan, Chinese acupuncture point P6. It works almost immediately after wearing it and lasts for up to 7 days. The P6 acupuncture point is known to stimulate the nervous system in the body, which triggers natural pain killing biochemicals such as endorphins and together with the body’s immune system protect against the onset of nausea and vomiting.

Pressure Right® is made of the highest quality of dermal components. Its one-use transparent adhesive strip and device attachment are 100% medical grade. It’s user friendly, hypoallergenic as well as latex-free.

Unlike the commonly used antiemetic drugs such as the popular use of Aprepitant and Ondansetron, Pressure Right® is very cost-effective as a replacement based on its extended 7 day use with no known side effects, which will contribute to supporting quality of life as well as reducing overall anti-nausea drug costs especially before and after patient surgery.

Pressure Right® has attracted many satisfied customers, including Mayo Clinic, after years of research and development leading to successful clinical testing of increasing nausea and vomiting prevention with minimum use of drug therapy. The vast majority of users including those in the after-market (e.g., 90%) were well satisfied with it’s acupressure preventive ability with fewer drug affects. Pressure Right® is opening up a new means of emetic management that combines oriental wisdom with western technology.

Pressure Right® aims at the billion dollar global market and the billion RMB China market. Currently, Pressure Point is looking to develop acupressure remedies for other medical conditions, such as hangover cures for fast relief, opioid relief, migraine relief, etc.

WEI LI, HOST:

Acupuncture points, as one of the key components of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), can be stimulated to treat diseases that can be traced back at least 2,500 years. Nowadays, a medical device based on acupuncture point therapy is available and has been approved by both FDA and CFDA to relieve Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV). Joseph DiLustro, Chairman of Pressure Point joins us now to talk about this. Hi there, Joe.

DILUSTRO: Yes, I am here.

LI: Why did you think of utilizing Chinese acupuncture point to treat nausea and vomiting?

DILUSTRO: Basically because of the problems associated with Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV). But it past 50 years the US medical community has had problems with the use of drug therapy in preventing nausea and vomiting after surgery. We Pressure Points saw this as an opening to develop and acupressure disposable device that reduces the intensity of nausea and vomiting affects for the majority of individuals that developed this medical problem.

LI: Which type of acupuncture point is used to stimulate the body?

DILUSTRO: This is specific acupuncture point — the P6 to regulate the nervous system in the body. This regulation of the nervous system triggers natural pain killing biochemicals such as endorphins and stimulates the immune system at the specific sites in the body to protect against various aftereffects of nausea and vomiting.

LI: Can your product compete with anti-nausea drugs?

DILUSTRO: Well, basically because drug treatments are limited in regards to their duration of effectiveness. For example, many of them are good for about 4 to 9 hours at most, and they generally cause adverse outcomes (poor quality of life) side effects like headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, and even blurred vision in some cases.

LI: What makes Pressure Right different from other anti-nausea approaches?

DILUSTRO: Pressure Right, on the other hand, because of its safe, acupressure adhesive delivery system provides even 72 hours of continuous nausea and vomiting treatment prevention without any adverse side effects. That is the basic difference.

LI: What’s on the horizon for the Pressure Right technology?

DILUSTRO: I'm glad you asked! At the moment, we're currently working on an extended 7 day adhesive that allows the user to decide when Pressure Right nausea protection is no longer needed. It’s a repositionable adhesive, and adhesive is good for 7 days use. It can be reapplied on the skin as many times as necessary.

LI: How do you view the China market for Pressure Right?

DILUSTRO: We are excited about China’s market because China’s percentage of current investment in that country's GDP for healthcare is around 6.2% compared to the U.S. 15%, which means there is a room for improvement for GDP healthcare spending to grow in China’s future. As a major reason is that the Chinese aging population is expected to double by 2030. We see many years of exponential growth in China's healthcare market as the country tries to catch up with its healthcare GDP spending.

LI: What’s your market strategy in China?

DILUSTRO: At the moment, Pressure Point is currently approved to sell its Pressure Right product to the hospitals in China. We look forward to servicing the Chinese healthcare market for many years to come. In addition to hospitals, we plan to broaden our reach for other medical modalities in China to help curb the uncomfortable and distressing effects of nausea that affect millions of people throughout provinces of China.

WEI LI, HOST: Joseph DiLustro, Chairman of Pressure Point. Joe, thanks.

DILUSTRO: You are welcome.
